TV Thompson
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (March, 1972)
Author: Glendon Fred Swarthout
Average review score:

A Great Book For All Ages
I was ushered into the wonderful world of reading by a fantastic third grade teacher who read books aloud every day for 30 minutes. TV Thompson was one of the books she read to us. I was so fascinated by the author's creativity. I couldn't wait to sit and hear another chapter of TV's amazing story. TV Thompson travels through the TV and participates in shows for awhile, then he's zapped out of them again. I have never forgotten this book, and am searching for a copy. As I recall, it was out of print even then. TV Thompson reminds me of when I first started enjoying reading. I think it's a great book for all ages, and a wonderful book to start kids on. Thank God for teachers who care enough to introduce students to the wonderful world of books.

wonderful resource for learning about how indians lived
This is a wonderful book about two boys who were curious about the indian way of life and about outdoor survival. The story is lively as it documents their discoveries, and the many illustrations are elegant as well as educational. I'd recommend it for anyone of any age.

The Types of the Folktale : A Classification and Bibliography (FF Communications, No 184)
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (October, 1995)
Authors: Antti Aarne, Stith Thompson, and Antti Arne
Average review score:

Probably the most valuable book on the study of myths.
For all purposes, this book can be considered the companion volume to the _Motif-Index_of_Folk-Literature_, Thompson's encyclopedic classification of all known myths and folk-tales. _Types_of_the_Folktale_ expounds the presence of syncretic motifs and themes cross-culturally, and then explains the basis of Aarne and Thompson's study, which resulted in the Motif-Index. Most books doing a study of mythography will simply presume you have read this first.

An important, unique contribution to Civil War studies.
This history of Hispanic involvements in the Civil War includes the first comprehensive list compiled over Confederate and Union Hispanic participants who served, providing a history which will particularly appeal to students of Texas state history. Vaqueros in Blue & Gray originally appeared in 1976; this new edition provides a new introduction, foreword, and the list of participants.

A Victorian Housebuilder's Guide: Woodwards National Architect of 1869
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (July, 1988)
Authors: George E. Woodward and Edward G. Thompson
Average review score:

A reprint of a detailed 19th century pattern book
This is one of the better Victorian pattern books reprinted by Dover. It consists of 100 plates covering designs from small homes to a large brick mansion, and several auxilliary building designs. The book also includes several example contracts for finishing some of the homes; with carpenters', masons', and plumbers' specifications.

The designs themselves are fairly detailed; with cross sections, interior, and exterior details. One of the best features is the superimposed cross sections on fretwork details; showing how many of these complicated peices are constructed from simple boards.

If you are intrested in Victorian buildings, for whatever reason, I suggest buying this book. Although not exstensive the the number of designs covered, only twenty, it offers one a good source of information. This book is far more detailed than the later Woodward's also reissued by Dover, and most later pattern books. If you enjoy the books by Vaux or Downing you should find this a nice addition to your library.

Excellent Essays
A series of excellent essays that critique television and society. A highly recommended follow up read to Arlen's "Living Room War". Its nice to read intelligent television criticism from someone who actually likes the medium and doesn't scapegoat it.

Virtual Cody
Published in Hardcover by Viking Childrens Books (June, 1997)
Authors: Betsy Duffey and Ellen Thompson
Average review score:

Extremely funny
I highly recommend this book because it is so funny, especially at the end, once you pick it up you cannot put it down, because you are anxious to find out where everybody's names came from. I also liked the computer faces that Cody made at the end of each chapter. :)
